How we work with our member councils
When it comes to the important work our councils do to address climate change, critical areas of focus are sustainability and environment.
But, that’s not where it all stops: our warming climate has direct impacts on all areas of the community, and thus council services. Whether economic planning, community health, disaster preparation and planning, all these council functions are being strategically reassessed in light of the climate change challenge.
When it comes to understanding and addressing the effects of climate change, and identifying the remarkable opportunities available in the global shift now underway to a low carbon economy, the local government authorities we represent are home to a remarkable array of talented people, daily facing the challenge of climate change.
This network, hard-wired into their local communities, are playing a critical role in efforts to implement sustainable practices and reduce greenhouse gases.
If we’re to effectively address climate change, and make the transition to a low carbon economy, it is these individuals, in front line leadership roles, who will be most critical to success.
The CVGA is here to ensure they are linked together, have a reliable source of information and an alliance that is constantly advocating on their behalf.
